Such notices and documents may be in writing or in print, or partly in writing and partly in print, and when sent to the General Medical Council, or a medical board, or a medical authority, shall be deemed to be properly addressed, if addressed, to the General Medical Council, medical board, or medical authority, or to some 5 officer of such council, board, or authority, at the principal office or place of business of such council board or authority; and when sent to a person registered in the medical register, shall be deemed to be properly addressed if addressed to him according to his address registered in that register.

34. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,-~

The expression "General Medical Council" means the General Council of Medical Education and Registration of the United Kingdom:

Nothing in the said provisions shall prevent from being registered a person who at the commencement in this Act is registered or entitled to be registered in the medical register, or prevent the restoration to the medical register of the name of any person 20 who had been registered therein before such commencement, and whose name might, but for this Act, have been restored to the register.

The expression "medical diploma" means a diploma in respect of medicine or surgery, or some branch of medicine or surgery, and includes a license or authority to practise medicine or surgery granted by any department of or persons acting under the autho- rity of the government of the country or place (whether within 30 or without Her Majesty's dominions) in which the license or authority is granted, and includes the title by which persons who obtain qualifying certificates under this Act are directed by this Act to be registered :

The expression "medical registrar" means the registrar of the General Medical Council, and the expression "local registrar" means a registrar of a branch medical council, and this Act shall apply, so far as circumstances admit, to the local 40 registrar for England as if he were a different person from the medical registrar:

Where a person who either-

(a.) Has obtained before the commencement of the joint board system two such qualifications as aforesaid from one or more of the medical authorities; or

(b.) Has obtained before the commencement of this Act a quali- fication to be registered under the Medical Act, 1858, produces or sends to the medical registrar the documents conferring 30 or evidencing such qualifications or qualification, with a statement of his name and address, and the other particulars (if any) required for registration, and pays the registration fee, he shall, subject to the other provisions of this Act, be registered in the medical register as possessor of the qualifications or qualification which he has 35 obtained.

36. The Acts mentioned in the fourth schedule to this Act are Repeal of bereby repealed to the extent in the third column of that schedule mentioned, as from the date in that behalf therein mentioned, or if no date is mentioned, as from the commencement of this Act;
